Beauty Sleep Is Not Just for Fairy Tales
Sleeping Beauty had something going for her—a good nights’ rest. While beauty sleep has long been a fabled tale, researchers have recently found that beauty sleep is a very real thing.
Study Shows Men and Women Are Seen as More Attractive When Well Rested
In the study, researchers photographed a group of twenty-five men and women between the ages of 18 and 47 years old on two separate occasions. They were first photographed after two consecutive good nights’ sleep at eight hours, and then again a week later after restricting their sleep to just four hours for two consecutive nights. The photographs were viewed by a second group of men and women who were asked to rate the subjects on attractiveness, health, sleepiness, and trustworthiness. They were also asked how likely they were to socialize with the person in each of the photos.
When sleep was restricted, the subjects were viewed as less attractive, less healthy, and seemingly more tired when compared to their well-rested selves. The research found that there was no significant difference in trustworthiness. Those looking at the photographs were also less willing to socialize with tired looking subjects than those who appeared well rested.
How to Fake a Good Nights’ Sleep at Skinetics Medical Aesthetics
We can all attest to looking for the wear after a fitful nights’ sleep. Busy lives and full schedules can get in the way of a full eight hours of sleep for many men and women here in Lufkin. Sallow skin, drained cheeks, and tired eyes greet many of us upon waking up and looking into the mirror. Fortunately, at Skinetics Medical Aesthetics, we have a number of ways to make it look like you got a good nights’ rest every day (even after a long night).
Fake a Healthy Glow!
When sleep deprived, your skin quickly becomes imbalanced and dehydrated resulting in redness, breakouts, and a dull, uneven complexion. HydraFacial MD® is a tall drink of water for your skin. The ultimate multi-tasker, HydraFacial MD simultaneously cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and nourishes your skin. HydraFacial MD finishes with a skin-healthy boost of nutrients including antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and peptides—the perfect cocktail to give your skin a radiant, healthy sheen.
When tired, we tend to look older. Fatigue seems to suck the volume right out of our faces. Gaunt temples, hollows beneath the eyes, flat cheeks, and a downward turned mouth can be the result of prolonged periods without adequate sleep. Facial fillers, such as Juvéderm®, can combat signs of aging by adding fullness back the face. Fillers placed in the tear trough, high in the cheeks, and around the mouth can help lift up the skin and make you look less tired.
Goodbye Tired Eyes!
The eyes are perhaps the most telling sign that you have missed out on a few Z’s. Botox® opens up the eye area—making you look immediately more awake and refreshed. When injected, Botox is able to lift a drooping brow, smooth fine lines and wrinkles that have developed at the outer corner of the eyes, and relax forehead furrows and frown lines.
Beauty sleep is real! When sleep isn’t an option, Holly Todd and our team at Skinetics Medical Aesthetics can keep you looking refreshed and rejuvenated.
